A subdomain is part of a web address that's under the main domain name, for instance name.example.com. Technically, even in www.example.com the "www" part is a subdomain because the fully qualified domain name is only "example.com". Each subdomain could have its own site and records and can also be hosted using a different provider if you wish to use some feature which is not offered by your current service provider. An illustration for using a subdomain is if you have a business site along with an online store under a subdomain where customers can buy your products. You can also have a forum where they can discuss the products and by employing subdomains rather than subfolders you are going to avoid any probability of all websites going down if you perform maintenance, or update one of the site scripts. Keeping the sites separated is also less risky in case there is a script security breach.

Subdomains in Shared Website Hosting

Each and every shared website hosting package we supply will enable you to create hundreds of subdomains with no more than a few clicks in your hosting CP. They are going to be listed in the section where you create them and grouped under the main domain for more convenience, so that you're able to effortlessly monitor them all. Furthermore, you can access many functions for any of the subdomains via right-click context menus - for example, you can view or change their DNS records, access the website files, and much more. While creating a new subdomain, you're also going to have lots of options that you can select from - define the default access folder, set customized error pages, activate FrontPage Extensions or select if the subdomain will use a shared or a dedicated IP address. The number of subdomains you are going to have is completely up to you because we haven't limited this feature for any of our plans.
