If you want to direct a domain name that you have to some other domain name or subdomain, one of the ways to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain name being forwarded loses all its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain address it's pointed to. That way, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be redirected to the website that you have set up, but it will also appear in the browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to redirect all of the visitors from various subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain because this kind of a record set up for the main domain name makes it impossible to use email addresses.

The new record will be fully active within the hour. Using CNAME records permits you to have better control of your domains and website content and our system is simple and user-friendly enough to allow people with no previous experience to create this sort of records easily.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every single one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, allows you to create a CNAME record with ease. In case you want to create a private URL for your emails, to point a domain to a subdomain inside the account or to forward a domain address to another provider and use some third-party service that they provide, it's not going to take you more than three clicks to create such a record. All DNS records for the domains and subdomains hosted in the semi-dedicated account will be listed in a separate section in the Control Panel, so once you're there, all you will have to do will be to choose the type of the record that you want to set up and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then type in the actual record text. For your convenience, you can watch a short video inside the Control Panel regarding how to create a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, which is available in the DNS records section.
